Growing confidence is a journey of both growing inherent self-worth and building confidence about your capacities in life, which takes time, effort, and self-awareness. Confidence is not something you suddenly get, but something you build over time, in the same way you can build muscle over time by going to the gym.

The biggest benefits of growing you confidence are:
– achieving goals more effectively and quickly
– Improved overall mental & emotional wellbeing
– Better and more solid relationships
– Feeling safe within (dealing with anxiety & general stress better)

Plenty of reasons to get started on your journey towards confidence. It’s not a ‘quick fix’ journey, but with a few simple steps, you can begin to grow your confidence and live the life you want. Here are 8 steps to help you along the way:

  1. Make a list of goals: Start by creating a list of things you want to achieve in life, whether it’s career-related, personal, in relationship or a (mental) health goal. Focus on goals that come from love, not from fear. Make them both long-term and short-term.
  2. Make a plan of action: Once you have your list of goals, create a plan of action to achieve them. This plan should include specific steps and deadlines. This will give you a roadmap to follow, helping you stay motivated and focused on your progress.
  3. Work on self-compassion: Self-compassion is an incredibly important factor of achieving true self-confidence. Self-Compassion is the foundation of feeling safe and at home with yourself. Learning to master soft, self compassion and in this way making yourself feel safe and loved by yourself, will only increase motivation to stand up for yourself, your goals, and going after what you really want.
  4. Commitment: Make a commitment to your plan and goals for at least a month. This will give you enough time to see real progress on the one hand, and start healing the relationship with yourself by mastering self-compassion on the other hand.
  5. Notice improvements: After being consistent with your goals and self-compassion, you will start noticing progress in your life. It’s important to explicitly focus on this progress along the way. Celebrate your wins and give yourself constructive feedback. This will help you build a positive self-image and grow your confidence.
  6. Change self-belief: As you begin to see positive changes, your self-belief will start to grow. You’ll start to see yourself as capable, deserving, and valuable. This will help you build a solid foundation of self-respect, which is essential for building confidence.
  7. Raise challenges: Continue to expand your comfort zone more and more by taking on new challenges. This will help you grow your confidence by proving to yourself that you’re capable of more than you thought.
  8. Authentic confidence is achieved: Once you’ve made it this far, you’ll have achieved authentic confidence. You’ll have a strong sense of self-worth and self-esteem, and you’ll feel comfortable in your own skin. You’ll also have a beautiful friendship with yourself, which is key to living a happy, fulfilled life.

The most difficult aspect of this, is creating consistency and discipline. You will probably have read this post and think: I’ll get started. However, it happens easily and quickly that we slip back into bad and old habits of negative self-talk, slacking on our goals and letting our future selves down again.
